At the base of the bean reserve, there is a slide pull to allow you to control how many beans you would like to pass through to the grinder. It is marked “2269 No 5” on the inside of the grinder. There is one handle that is slightly bent, but otherwise in great condition. The grinder measures approximately 16.25"T x 15"W (including the handles) and 12.5" across the wheels.

The grinder has likely been repainted at some time with some minor chipping as shown in photos. Original color would have been red with gold gilt. The coffee catch drawer is missing from this piece, however does not detract from the overall example of a period grinder. A great addition for any collection.

Original Highwaymen, Al Black, Framed Florida Oil Painting - Listed Artist

Lot #45 (Sale Order 45 of 328)

This beautiful painting by Al Black, is an oil on upson board (circa 1968-1970), and measures approximately 38" x 26" with the frame. The frame is black and brown, and the artist has signed the piece in the lower right corner, using what appears to be pencil, as shown in photos.

The Highwaymen, also referred to as the Florida Highwaymen, are a group of 26 named and listed landscape artists who have been called "The Last Great American Art Movement of the 20TH century". This group of self taught and self mentoring African American artists, were able to define themselves against the many odds, racial and cultural barriers of the time in which they painted, and created a body of work of over 200,000 paintings. For over 50 years, The Highwaymen, a loose association of twenty-six African American artists from Fort Pierce, Florida, USA, who began painting in the early 1950s and into 1960s, created large numbers of relatively inexpensive landscape paintings, which were created using construction materials rather than traditional art supplies. As no galleries would accept their works, they sold them in towns and cities and along roadsides throughout Florida often still wet, out of the trunks of their cars.

Rare Antique Corsican Vendetta Folding Knife, over 20"L - RARE

Lot #97 (Sale Order 97 of 328)

This antique Corsican Vendetta knife is a truly unique and rare find! These knives are very scarce, and more so to find one of this size, with an overall length of approximately 20.5” when open, and approx 11” closed. The blade still maintains a nice edge, and the knife still closes tight when folded. The bone or ivory handle has wonderful color, with art on both sides, including a Corsica silhouette, and an eagle on the obverse, as shown in the photos. The blade still maintains the classic swirls and “Vendetta Corsica” on one side and "Che la mia ferita sia mortale" –meaning : “may the wound be fatal” on the other. The blade could be professionally cleaned, however we wanted to leave the original patina. This is a must have for any knife collector!

As described by By DAVID COLMAN of the New York Times. Published: February 6, 2005 http://www.nytimes.com/2005/02/06/fashion/06poss.html?ex=1265346000&en=23af219a782ebf81&ei=5090&partner=rssuserland

“A bright triangular stab of a blade that pivots into a sinuous notched sheath reminiscent of a Brancusi or a high-heeled mule, a Corsican vendetta practically cries out for a featured role at the Metropolitan Opera House. The vendetta was a rural knife, dating from the 1700's, that evolved into an instrument of family pride. James Loriega, a historian in Mediterranean weapons, explained that the vendetta code meant that if your honor or that of your family was impugned, you were bound to take action, after duly advising the wrongdoer to choose one of the three S's: schioppo (gun), stiletto (dagger) or strada (the street - i.e., escape). Some vendetta knives were engraved with a dire inscription like "Che la mia ferita sia mortale" - may the wound be fatal. (Contemporary variations can be found at www.knivesofcorsica.com.)”

Original Watercolor by Listed Artist Stephen Scott Young, "After Hopper" - American Artist E. Hopper

Lot #101A (Sale Order 101 of 328)

This Stephen Scott Young Original Watercolor is titled "After Hopper”, and is on a Natural Fiber Paper. This piece is signed at the bottom right, and measures 16.75” x 14” framed. It is elegantly framed in a simple brown frame, with a cream matte. This wonderfully unique piece has a very tranquil majestic feel to it, and is of a very different subject matter from many of Scott’s genre’s. This is an earlier work of Scott’s, that was done after the style and work by American Artist Edward Hopper, called “Early Sunday Morning” (1930).

This piece is all about feeling, and the colors and blending that he pulls off brilliantly depicts the feeling he had for Hoppers work. This comes from a local St. Augustine Estate, belonging to a close friend of the artist, during his time here. Several of the pieces of Scott’s in this Auction came from the Estate of June Weideman. The reverse of this painting is pencil inscribed, “For my friend June Weideman, St. Augustine, FL, A Study After E. Hopper, 1985 Christmas”. This is a wonderful opportunity to own one of the rare pieces of Scott’s work that is unique in it’s subject matter, as it was specifically done for his close family and friends.

His work has at times been compared with that of Winslow Homer, Andrew Wyeth, and Thomas Eakins. Young and Homer's subject matter is very similar; both making the Bahamas a primary venue for painting, as well as opting for black models as subjects. Collectors often hang his works beside those of the great realists of the 19th-century. Please read more at AskArt.com and see our other pieces by Stephen Scott Young that sold in our previous auctions.

1980 Gold Krugerrand Coin 1/4 OZ Fine Gold - South Africa

Lot #111 (Sale Order 111 of 328)

1980 Gold Krugerrand Coin, South Africa, - 1/4 Oz. of Fine Gold

The Krugerrand is a South African gold coin, first minted in 1967 to help market South African gold. The coin proved popular, and by 1980 the Krugerrand accounted for 90% of the gold coin market. It is produced by the South African Mint, and offered here in a one fourth ounce coin. This coin is in very nice condition, as shown in photos, and is 1/4 oz. of Fine Gold.

The Krugerrand was introduced in 1967, as a vehicle for private ownership of gold. It was actually intended to circulate as currency. Therefore it was minted in a more durable gold alloy, unlike most other bullion coins.

Despite the coin's legal tender status, economic sanctions against South Africa for its policy of apartheid made the Krugerrand an illegal import in many Western countries during the 1970s and 1980s. These sanctions ended when South Africa abandoned apartheid in 1994.

Antique Malayan Kris Sword from Early 1900's

Lot #112 (Sale Order 112 of 328)

This Malayan Kris sword is a fine example of a 1900’s design used in the Malay Islands. Kris swords are known to be wavy or straight, with a rough and grainy texture, as they were made from a mixture of metals. Kris Sword History, and examples, are referenced in the book “Swords and Hilt Weapons” published by Weidenfeld & Nicolson, New York: pg 198-200. This sword measures approx 27.75”L and the blade measures approx 22”L. The blade maintains its original edge and patina. The “ganga”, or guard, is very plain at the base of the “elephants trunk”, or hooked like projection at the base of the blade. There is a unique design engraved into the blade, the grip is still tightly wrapped, and the pommel is hand crafted and inlaid with mother of pearl (one mother of pearl piece is missing) as shown in the photos. This brilliant and commanding sword comes with a wonderful legacy on how the Malay’s crafted and respected the creation and handling of the Kris.

Spanish Cob Type Shipwreck Silver Eight Reale Coin Dated 16(77) - Pirate Treasure

Lot #116 (Sale Order 116 of 328)

This Spanish Cob Type Shipwreck Silver Eight Reale Coin is Dated 16(77), and was minted during the Reign of Carlos II, in Potosi. It has a grade of Fine, and the Assayers Mark “E”. This coin comes with a “Certificate of Authenticity of An Historical Artifact” documenting its historical merit.

The Story of the “Treasure of the Consolacion 1681”. In April of 1681, a fleet of Spanish treasure galleons were to leave the port of Lima, Peru, with the last few years of minted gold and silver coins from Potosi mints. The Santa Maria De la Consolacion was delayed in Chili, forcing the rest of the fleet to leave the port, and leaving the Consolacion to finish the journey to Panama alone.

Upon leaving Peru with the Consolacions new cargo of treasure alone, the ship was sighted by pirates, and the Captain decided to ground the ship. Tragically, the ship struck a reef off the island of Santa Clara within the bay of Guayaquil, Ecuador, which was nicknamed by the Spanish, “Isla de Muerto” ( Island of the Dead ). The galleon was soon evacuated and set on fire to prevent any pillaging. Neither pirates, nor returning Spaniards were able to recover all of the sunken treasure.

The immigrants lived in New York City, and Harrison was born in 1877. His father instructed him in drawing and painting, and they also studied at the Mark Hopkins Institute of Art, formerly the San Francisco Art Association. Amedee Joullin, noted for his paintings of the Aztec Indians, was especially influential on Harrison's work. Lot #120 (Sale Order 120 of 328)

This is a 90’s Retro Original Mortal Kombat Standing Arcade Game, by Midway Manufacturing Company. This awesome science fantasy fighting game is dated 1992, which was the first year Midway released this game to arcades. The game is in good working condition and is set for free play. A padlock secures the coin drop, however, we felt that the new owner should have the thrill of cutting it off as there are believed to be quarters still in it. This game is in great condition for its age and considering how many gamers may have played it, though it does have some cracks, and wear around the outside, as shown in photos. The joystick console is protected by plexiglass, which does have wear to it, as shown in photos, and could easily be replaced. This hard to find original arcade game would be great for collectors or gaming enthusiasts. This way cool machine measures approximately 70.75”T, 26”W, 30”D.

1980 Gold Krugerrand Coin 1 OZ Fine Gold- South Africa

Lot #147 (Sale Order 147 of 328)

1980 Gold Krugerrand Coin, South Africa, - 1 Oz. of Fine Gold

The Krugerrand is a South African gold coin, first minted in 1967 to help market South African gold. The coin proved popular, and by 1980 the Krugerrand accounted for 90% of the gold coin market. It is produced by the South African Mint, and offered here in a one ounce coin. This coin is in very nice condition, as shown in photos, and is 1 oz. of Fine Gold.

Spanish Shipwreck Coin, Cob Type, Silver Eight Reale, Dated 16(79)

Lot #154 (Sale Order 154 of 328)

This Spanish Shipwreck Coin is a Cob Type Silver Eight Reale, is Dated 16(79), and was minted during the Reign of Carlos II, in Potosi. It has a grade of Fine, and the Assayers Mark is “C”.

Original Highwaymen, John Maynor, Oil on Board, Florida Listed Artist

Lot #155 (Sale Order 155 of 328)

This wonderful painting by John Maynor, is oil on board, and measures approximately 18.25" x 22.25" with frame. The artist has signed the piece in the lower right corner. This is a wonderful traditional style painting by a Highwaymen artist.

Listed Artist Stephen Scott Young, Original Watercolor Titled "Silo"

Lot #165A (Sale Order 165 of 328)

This Stephen Scott Young Original Watercolor is titled "Silo”, and is on a Natural Fiber Paper. This piece is signed at the lower left, and measures 18” x 11.5” framed. It is elegantly framed in a gold frame, with a cream matte. This wonderfully unique piece has a very warm, subtle feel to it, and is of a very different subject matter from many of Scott’s genre’s. This is an earlier work, that was done during his travels, and even then shows off his brilliant eye for detail. This piece, along with some of his other paintings in this auction, comes from a local St. Augustine Estate, The Estate of June Weideman, a life-long friend of Scott’s. This is a wonderful opportunity to own one of the rare pieces of Scott’s work that is unique in it’s subject matter, as it was specifically done for his close family and friends.

AskArt.com Biography: Stephen Scott Young, noted for his watercolors, was born in 1957 and lives adjacent to Jonathan Dickinson State Park near Palm Beach County, Florida. After graduating from high school, Young spent three years studying printmaking at the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Florida. In 1985, Young won a first prize at an American Artist's national art competition in watercolors. The large size of his paintings lends added dimension and realism, and he often incorporates bright and clear colors.

Antique Klewang Sword with Wooden Hilt, used by the Lanum of Borneo

Lot #179 (Sale Order 179 of 328)

This truly unique Wooden-hilted Klewang sword, was used by the Lanum people of Borneo. This sword has an obtuse point, and a plain hilt that curves slightly backwards. This unique sword is referenced in the book “Swords and Hilt Weapons” published by Weidenfeld & Nicolson, New York: pg 202-203. The sword measures approximately 37.5” long, with the blade being 28.5”. The blade has a nice sharp edge, and has 9 small round cut-out’s in the tip that may have been used for decoration, or locks of hair, which was also common in the holes on the cross guard. As referenced in the book, there was once likely a smaller protruding tip that is missing from this blade, which appears to be an old worn break. The wooden handle has some natural splitting, as shown in the photos. This is a great example of a 1900’s period piece that is very solid, including the weaves on the hilt, and is very nice to hold.

Listed Artist Stephen Scott Young, Original Watercolor, Self Portrait Titled "Karl Mauldin Young"

Lot #180 (Sale Order 180 of 328)

This Stephen Scott Young "Self Portrait, Karl Mauldin Young 1984”, is a watercolor on paper, titled and dated at the lower center, with a second portrait on obverse. This piece measures 18 in. x 12 in., and is nicely framed in a gold frame, with a white matte. The frame measures approximately 30” x 24”in. This is an early work of Scott’s that was a Self-Study. It is very unusual to find a self-portrait of Scott, as he did not care to paint himself, and referred to this piece as his alter-ego.

AskArt.com Biography: Stephen Scott Young, noted for his watercolors, was born in 1957 and lives adjacent to Jonathan Dickinson State Park near Palm Beach County, Florida. Young's interest in art was perhaps motivated by picture books given to him by his mother, depicting the works and styles of 'Old Masters' Vermeer and Caravaggio. After graduating from high school, Young spent three years studying printmaking at the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Florida. He began to work in watercolor around 1976, with his style maturing in the 1980's. In 1985, Young won a first prize at an American Artist's national art competition in watercolors. The large size of his paintings lends added dimension and realism, and he often incorporates bright and clear colors.

Please read more at AskArt.com and see our previous pieces by Stephen Scott Young that sold in our previous auctions.

Listed Artist, Sam Newton, Oil on Board Painting of Seascape - Highwaymen Art

The frame is white and gold, and the artist has signed the piece in the lower right. This beautiful seascape is an original by Sam Newton, brother of the late Harold Newton.

Spanish Shipwreck Silver Eight Reale Coin, Cob Type, Dated 1675

Lot #201 (Sale Order 201 of 328)

This Spanish Shipwreck Silver Eight Reale, Cob Type Coin, is Fully Dated 1675, and was minted during the Reign of Carlos II, in Potosi. It has a grade of Fine, and the Assayers Mark is “E”. This coin comes with a “Certificate of Authenticity of An Historical Artifact” documenting it’s historical merit.
